Paper art on a snowy day

When we got the call that school was closed for the day due to 6 inches of new snow, I must admit I was relieved. At last an excuse to hide away from our schedule and just concentrate on some forgotten projects that were calling my name….

“Art Totem” All of my lovelies mounted on a paint stir stick and able to hang vertically.
This little finch started off as a digital file. I outlined a photo of a Spice Finch and then added one of my collage paintings underneath.
These pink waterlilies are not glued to their backgrounds yet as I’m not sure what I want to do with them.
Colorful images of birds, hearts, and paper fairies.
Here is the original waterlily. I found a photo that I liked and drew the lines on top. The coloring came from the photo so I could combine the realism of a photo with the line treatment of an illustration.
My lovely Muse sits atop a chipboard collage. She seems to like hovering there, don’t you think? I love figuring out which pieces should get glued together.
With all my extra Art Angels floating around, it’s fun to make some gift tags. Once I string some bakers twine through the holes, they will be all set to go with a present.

Ink and paint on wood

I had some 4″x 4″ wood squares that needed some paint. The text was taken from some old airplane maintenance books from the 40’s. I love combining the technical verbiage with the loose, colorful imagery.

Hopelink Calendar

Here is my illustration that was used in the 2014 calendar for Hopelink.  They do a wonderful job of helping those in need,in my community and “offer an integrated array of programs that enable families in crisis to make progress toward and achieve self-sufficiency”  I was very thrilled to be included in such a beautiful calendar for such an important organization. Can you guess what month it was?  If you said September, you’d be right!  The beautiful little girl is my niece.

Some Time to Play

Finally some time to put the pieces together.  I love making each of the elements in a collage and then arranging them all for a final layout.  These little squares will go on small birch panels.

Weather Patterns

Happy that I got to do some art today!!  Here near Seattle, we have had some serious rain even by our standards.  It’s been a rainy, drizzly spring.  Today I made collage paintings inspired by the science of weather and the hope of sunny days to come.

Mixed Media Polymer Heart Valentines

What is more fun than being inspired by special friends on Valentine’s Day?  Whoo hoo!  After baking some polymer hearts, I covered the sides with Washi tape.  I covered the fronts and back with images from my painting stash.  I added some cool numbers that were from an old TV set.  I coated everything in Triple Thick for sheen and dimension.  A few more embellishments were added such as gold leaf pen accents and a metal eyelet.  I strung them on colorful banana fiber and they were ready to go.

Soaring Blue Bird

Blue birdy flying over a color field in blue.  The background was made with collage and pastels that I smeared with my finger.  I love how the colors changed and bled when I painted them with matte medium.  Looks like watercolor but isn’t.
